The ultrasound levitation chamber, commonly shortened as "ulev," was a machine capable of using the force properties of ultrasound to levitate an object or material such that gravity does not bring it in contact with a surface.
A later variant of the ulev, the ultrasound vacuum levitation chamber, commonly called the "vaclev," allowed the user to suspend the object or material in a perfect vacuum. This variant saw much use in the scientific community, particularly with the handling of mutite. The use of a vaclev allowed the user to manipulate a raw sample of mutite without risk of accidental programming. It's use rarely went beyond the scientific, though, as the difficulties in creating stable machines capable of maintaining a perfect vacuum were extensive and significant time and effort had to be put into making even a single vaclev.
