LQTCN

Created Saturday 15 October 2022

The Large QTC Network (LQTCN or LQN) was a network of QTC repeaters developed by AION, an administration of the IPC, for the purpose of extending the transmit distance of QTC signals beyond those previously possible. The primary purpose of the LQTCN was to make the INOUT project possible, though it also had consequences on how standard QTC worked. The LQTCN was the most expensive project ever carried out by the IPC that did not involve warfare or combat.

Deployment

Standard QTC repeaters were deployed to interstellar space using an ingrained system, with functions split into phases as follows:

Phase 0

Payload of repeater packets are sent through sub-material travel to specific locations across the Anadeia and observed by telescope.

Phase 1

Primary thrust particles are expelled opposite to intended direction of movement, sending other particles in their intended direction.

Phase 2

Calibrated radioactive timer particle decays at a time when proper placement is reached, expelling secondary thrust particles in the direction of movement based upon the location of magnetically-calibrated control particle, stopping remaining particles.

Phase 3

Remaining control particle and entanglement particles are now functional.

Downsides

While the development and integration of the LQTCN was instrumental to the development of interstellar society, it was not without its downsides. The greatest among these aside from the expenses to create it was the massive scale of communications intrinsic to its makeup. In order to allow for communication regardless of direction, entangled particles had to be entangled with several other particles, otherwise any given signal would travel on only a single path. This aspect, while functional, allowed for the ability to intercept any message being sent from anywhere if it happened to come near an entangled particle pair local to the intercepting QTC transceiver. This consequence effectively eliminated the widespread use of unencrypted QTC for any use beyond that of hobbyists. Knowing this, many smaller organizations untrusting of AION but unable to source sufficient encryption technologies for their communications were either dissolved or merged with larger organizations.
